Traveling is one of the most rewarding experiences! Through traveling, one becomes more aware of the world. They gain a greater understanding of the various cultures that constitute the human race.
Those who travel have a broader perspective of life. They are able to properly distinguish the pros and cons of their country, perhaps developing a deeper appreciation for it.
However, traveling can be a difficult task for many. It requires a certain degree of bravery, an open mind and (of course) money.
The world is as small as it is vast. The rapid and constant improvement in technology makes us more interconnected than ever! Money is no longer a major barrier in broadening one’s horizons.
There are many ways to learn and build connections throughout the world without a passport. In fact, you don’t even have to leave your home.
5 Ways to Travel in the Comfort of Your Home
#1 Listen to a foreign radio station

One of the easiest ways to immerse yourself into a foreign culture is by listening to another country’s radio station. It is not only a great way to expose yourself to different languages, dialects and music genres, but also to understand the local beliefs, concerns and interests of that country. My personal favorite international station is Australia’s Triple J.
#2 Watch a foreign film or TV show

Netflix is a beautiful, beautiful thing! The streaming service has plethora of foreign films and TV shows, as well as travel programs like Anthony Bourdain‘s series. No need to fret if you don’t have Netflix. There are other ways to get your hand on foreign films and shows through the internet, YouTube and other streaming services.
#3 Make a dish or treat from another country

If film and music aren’t cutting it for your at-home getaway, consider taking your senses on a trip. The aromas and flavors can transport you to an authentic Italian cucina or a Japanese tea shop. My go-to dish is shrimp wontons.
#4 Look up travel vlogs on YouTube
The easiest way to gain the perspective of a true traveler is by tagging along on a journey. Vlogging is a terrific trend in the millennial age. It has the power to enlighten millions! Check out one of my favorite travel vlog channels: DamonAndJo.
#5 Read a book set in a different country
If videos aren’t your thing, try picking up a book. Eat, Pray, Love is a great pick! In your imagination, depict the world through your own lens. Consider aiding your journey with ambient music paired with scented candles (i.e. Hawaiian Breeze) or incense.
